The entrance door is situated behind the front wheels and part of the engine is beneath the windshield and beside the drivers seat.

Type C school buses are referred to as conventional buses and are designed for carrying more than 10 passengers. The entrance door is behind the front wheels and the entire engine is in front of the windshield. The Type D school bus is also designed for carrying more than 10 passengers. However, the engine may be at the rear of the bus, behind the rear wheels, behind the windshield and the drivers seat or midway between the front and rear axles.
